Odds-on fancies do the job at PUnchestown

3 minute read

Sizing Europe and Sir Des Champs were both odds-on favourites in their respective Gr 1 races on Tuesday and both obliged.

The Champion Chase saw Sizing Europe surge ahead to beat Realt Dubh by 2 1/4 lengths with Big Zeb third.

The Novice Chase was an absolute farce for a Gr 1 event as of the 5 runners Mossey Joe fell, Frisco Depot was brought down and Sir Des Champs went on to win by 36 lengths from Shop Di with Ordinary Man a further 31 lengths back.

Wednesday's card features the Novice Hurdle G1 which at least has a field of 12 runners. Sous Les Cieux is 9/4, Ipsos du Berlais 4/1, and if you want a real roughie try Cootamundra 25/1 - not sure where he obtained the name but are investigating.

The Punchestown Gold Cup is G1 and looks like a good competitive contest. Quel Esprit is on 2/1 going for his fourth consecutive win this season, Rubi Light is 3/1, Captain Chris 4/1 but he's very uneven and we prefer to look wider for the multiples and like Quantitativeeasing 10/1 and we haven't yet given up on Roberto Goldback 12/1.
