Singapore Cup day

3 minute read

The forecast is for a slightly overcast day with a max in the low 30s for the big International day in Singapore.

Many people are fancying the Dubai sprint winner Krypton Factor but that win was on tapeta and we are not convinced that the form will carry through here. He had a scare during the week which was just the case of a lost shoe and no real damage but he did not look all that happy in his work. We are going for last year's Golden Horseshoe winner Mr Big from Invincible Ash, Captain Obvious and Krypton Factor.

The Cup is very open this year. Zazou, now racing under the Russian flag, is a very well travelled horse and should be respected though he may not be our fist choice. City Style came third in the Dubai Duty Free and his regular jockey Mickael Barzalona has flown in to take the ride. He's looked good, but then so did Cityscape two weekends back and he went down to Rulership in Hong Kong. We liked the run of California Memory in that race which dispelled a lot of negative talk that had been floating round. He's been here before and there is a jockey change with the experienced South African Felix Coetzee to ride.

We liked Chinchon in Hong Kong and we like him even more here. He was unlucky in the QEII in Hong Kong and Olivier Doleuze is coming in from Hong Kong for the ride.

Thumbs Up ran a great second to Rulership in the QEII and although getting on he looks very much as if he is in his prime. He has to be a great chance in this.

There's another veteran and top representative for the locals in Waikato who can never be ruled out.

So at the moment we are thinking Chinchon, Thumbs Up, Zazou and Waikato.

On the rest of the card Race 6 is Class 2 1400m and we like Masthead, Davide and on top Speedy Cat.

Race 8 is an Open 1600m and we are thinking Flying West, Black Ice, Arrowana Dot Com and Jamal Malik.
