International Jockeys' Championship at Happy Valley

3 minute read

12 jockeys – 8 International and 4 local – will compete over 4 races for a lucrative purse.

As usual in these types of events the horses aren't the top stars and there is a draw for which jockey gets to ride which horse.

Which all goes to make looking at these races more a guessing game than for the serious races that will be run at the weekend.   The markets are pretty open so far on all four races so we are not tipping with any degree of confidence especially as we don't usually cover these lower level races, but here goes:

Leg 1 is Race 4, a 1000m sprint.  At present Parents' Love is on 4.8 for Vincent Ho however we are leaning towards Lean Master (no pun intended) on 6.6 for William Buick as they have a good gate and the same can be said for Champion Method on 6.8, Karis Teetan's mount.  We'll add Spicy Spangles although he's drawn the car park and is on 24.0 for Kawada-san.

Leg 2 is Race 5, over 1650m.  Prince Alex is currently on top on 5.6 for J Mac and Jumbo Fortune on 6.3 for Hugh Bowman.  Caspar Fownes trains Charming Steed and Lucky Banner both around 11.0 for local riders Zac Purton and Vincent Ho, and Sure Joyful is also on 11.0 for Col Keane.

Leg 3 is Race 7 also over 1650m and here Super Unicorn is on top on 4.8 for Barzalona but we prefer Daring Pursuit on. 5.8 with Ryan Moore on board.  He's trained by Caspar Fownes who also saddles Jumbo Legend on 6.9 with Vincent Ho on board. Karris Teetan's mount Silo on 7.5 also has a good chance.

Leg 4 is Race8 over 1200m and here we are going for Kyrus Dragon, the mount of Col Keane who is on 8.8 and is going for his 3rd consecutive win, and last start he beat Gustosismo by a short head and Gustosisimo is on top here on 5.3 with Hugh Bowman in the irons.  Spicy Gold on 6.1 is going for a 4th consecutive win and will be in the hands of Kawada-san.  He's been working well as has Super Joy N Fun on 6.8 and Chateauneuf is another that has pleased the trackwork watchers and is on 7.2 with J Mac on board.

The International team is Barzalona, Buick, Ryan Moore, Kawada-san, Hollie Doyle, Col Keane, Rachel King and J Mac with the locals being represented by Bowman, Ho, Purton and Teetan.

And there's fireworks after!
