Favourites home in Irish Guineas

Although there were surprises in other races.

FALLEN ANGEL. Picture: Healy Racing.

Firstly on Saturday the G3 Marble Hill went to Arizona Blaze 7/1 for Adrian Murray and David Egan when they beat the favourite Camille Pissarro by a head with Midnight Strike third.

The Greenland Stakes G2 went to Mitbaahy 9/1 Charlie Hills and Jamie Spencer with Regional 17/2 second and Ano Syra 50/1 third.  One for the bookies!

The 2000 Guineas saw Rosallion go one better than he did in the UK version and score a very good win over Haatem by a head with Haatem also doing one spot better than in the UK Guineas.  River Tiber was third, 1 ¼ lengths back, but not a bad run considering it was his first since last September.

Sunday the rain returned and the fillies in the 1000 Guineas ran in the pouring rain but this was no problem for Fallen Angel, who had started favourite and scored over A Lilac Rollo 12/1 and Opera Singer who was in a tight phot for third with stablemate Buttons.  All the first four should go on to better things in the near future.

The Lanwades Stud G2  saw Ocean Jewel produce a good run and win comfortably over Goldana 7/1 with Rogue Millenium third.

The Gold Cup was supposed to be redemption time for Auguste Rodin but it was not to be as White Birch took the honours and left Auguste back in second, just ahead of 40/1 shot Crypto Force in third with Elegant Man fourth home.
