Speed Map Special

G2 Peter Young Stks - 1800m Caulfield

Racing And Sports have identified the old St George Stks as the race of the weekend where the settling positions hold a big sway in the way the race may end up.

Our maps are interactive and so use the technology available to create your own speed map if you have a differing view. Much like racing everywhere, it is all a matter of opinion and that is what makes the sport great.

Click the link back to the race in our Form Guides and you can create your own Speed Maps located on the left hand side of the page.

Explanation:

Like many WFA races at this time of year, we’re struggling to see much speed. In fact it may well be the case of who gets left in front. God Has Spoken didn’t have much time off after the Perth Cup so will have some fitness levels and often finds himself near the front there. Star Rolling raced much closer second up and has more grounding in his legs having had two runs back. Reckon Boss should ride Pakal more positively this week, around where he was positioned in the Mackinnon Stakes.

Speed Map Specials:- (4) Foreteller & (6) Pakal

Taking a chance here that we risk the Melbourne Cup winner first up. Even though he’s straight to 1800m, which is not the issue it used to be, surely his bigger fish are firstly the Australian Cup where he loves Flemington and then onto The Championships. For that reason going to suggest two horses with a turn of foot can beat him as we hope they settle further forward.

Foreteller has a fantastic second up record in Australia off let ups. He won this very race last year in what was not a good a field admittedly, just missed in the Doomben Cup off a similar prep and then in the Spring off a longer break came from near last to win the G1 Makybe Diva. Liked the way he hit the line in the Orr in a race dominated from the front.

The other one to back is Pakal. Whatever happened first up, ignore that as a form reference. Second up in the Spring he toughed it out very well in the 1700m race at Caulfield which was run very quickly. His Cranbourne Cup and Mackinnon runs were excellent. If they ride him closer he has speed to win this.

Remember how Foreteller finished off in the Makybe Diva Stakes
