The Trial Files team look to find you a few for Saturday

Racing And Sports is pleased to introduce for punters the services from The Trial Files. Their team specialise in viewing Barrier Trials from Victoria, NSW and WA and analyse them for future race performances.

The Trial Files don’t just provide recommended selections but also provide a full trial review service which delivers information for all punters to use. They aim to educate people on trial information and stimulate wagering on those horses in the process.

Please find below some of their best for the weekend based on recent trials around the country.

1. Caulfield Race 9 – 5 Danestroem

TRIAL COMMENTS

DANESTROEM settled midfield about 3-4L off the leaders. She was obscured in the early part of the straight but really charged through under a massive hold. Super trial and was pulling away from them on the line. She really is a smart mare who looks set for a very strong preparation.

SUMMARY

DANESTROEM is a very smart conveyance who both races well first up and at this track. She has never missed a place from five first up outings and has only once been out of the money at Caulfield (when she was reported to have come to the end of her preparation). Mick Kent has engaged Jackie Beriman and as a result this mare gets in with just 52kg and her best runs have been when she has been down in the weights.

Her trial was outstanding, she ran good time for the morning and reeled off a 35.44 last 600M and 22.72 last 400M which were both the best times recorded on the morning. She is clearly in super order and will be right in the finish. I am sure Mick Kent wouldn’t have thought he would run into a Group 1 performer in Gregers in a lowly $80,000 Mares Handicap, but that’s the reality of this race.

GREGERS has proven herself a Group 1 performer with 4th placings in the William Reid Stakes, Goodwood Handicap and Oakleigh Plate, along with a placing in the Sangster Stakes. Two of her four wins have come first up and that recent jump out showed she had come back in super order. She has been a while out of the winners circle and does have to lump the 58kg but she is going to be hard to beat.

DANESTROEM trialled enormous and deserves her chance. If there is any chink in the GREGERS armour than this mare will be winning. Think she is close to a place moral and betting up accordingly with something on the win as well. Take a quinella with GREGERS as these two really stand out above the competition.

2. Kembla Race 3 – 11 Herne's Oak

TRIAL COMMENTS

Lovely trial from HERNE'S OAK. Yet to debut. Was last rounding the home turn but finished off superbly under minimal pressure, making up a huge amount of ground. Ran through the line superbly.

SUMMARY

A set weight maiden over 1400m and only a moderate affair. This race is interesting, simply due to our blackbooker HERNE'S OAK who trialled superbly before flopping on debut at Warwick Farm. He pulled up with a slow post-race recover rate and must be forgiven. His trial prior showed that he is much better than that he can improve sharply here without surprising. Padraig Beggy takes the ride and barrier 7 shouldn’t pose too many problems. The step up to 1400m should suit this son of High Chaparral, especially when looking at the way he finished off his trial prior to his debut. If he is 100%, he looks hard to beat here.

LONNERO looks set to improve second-up as many Waller runners do. He led at this track and distance first-up a fortnight ago and his effort to run second was full of merit. The son of Lonhro can roll forward and give a bold sight. Tony McEvoy has ELENA'S JOY engaged here and she has been very consistent in 8 starts in South Australia without managing to break through. Barrier 13 should see her work forward and she is expected to be thereabouts again.

Have to stick with what we saw at the trials and if HERNE'S OAK lives up to that, he will no doubt be hard to hold out. Market may be a guide to how well he is going, so if he has any support late, expecting him to run well. LONNERO and ELENA'S JOY look chances as does the consistent CAUPOLICAN.

3. Belmont Race 5 – 2 Rose Of Choice

TRIAL COMMENTS

ROSE OF CHOICE – sat towards the back of the field and came through the field nicely late. Classy mare who goes well fresh. Only an average time but there was plenty of talent in this heat.

SUMMARY

The first thing to look at for this race is the glaring lack of pace which means the likes of THATELDO and COMFYSOFA may have to push forward. COMFYSOFA comes back in class out of the black type Beaufine and HG Bolton Sprints. He cops the weight rise with that drop in class but he is going pretty well. As we have noted above, he may push forward with the lack of pace in the race and he raced effectively in this style in his last campaign.

ROSE OF CHOICE returns for her first campaign since a great mares series at Ascot over the summer. She has only ever missed the placings three times from 15 starts and tuned up for this with a nice trial on Monday. She has never been unplaced at the track or the distance and if Joey Azzopardi can get some cover, she will be hard to hold out.

THATELDO disappointed last time when back from a brief freshen up and could only muster a 7th behind ROCK MAGIC beaten just under 2.5L. He will need to improve from that run and from barrier 3 may be able to go forward and control the speed.

SON OF SOMETHING has won both of his previous first up starts and comes off a solid enough trial against SMOKO three weeks ago. He stretched out to 2200m for a win in his last campaign but think his best distance is around the mile. Must respect him given his fresh record, but the 1200m may just a touch sharp for him at this stage.

A handy little race this but ROSE OF CHOICE is a very classy mare and isn’t weighted too badly against the other genuine challengers in the race. Looking for $3.50+ which would be a nice play. COMFYSOFA, THATELDO and SON OF SOMETHING look the ideal horses for the multiples.
