Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Best Case a big hope at Randwick Picture: Racing and Sports
Randwick Race 2 - 2 Best Case

Has been given a well measured preparation of two starts and two trials for this first start over 2000m in this campaign. His two starts in much tougher races at Rosehill have been eye catching efforts, resuming over 1400m and then going six weeks before his last start fourth in the G2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill when he worked home strongly from the back half. Only has to find the form that saw him placed in the G2 Tulloch Stakes and G1 SA Derby in the autumn to have the measure of this field.

Randwick Race 4 - 8 Black Revolver

Dawdling pace and sprint home played against him when he just failed to catch Malice over this course an distance on September 20 when an odds on favourite. Hard to fault his consistency and fitness and happy to give him another chance as he stays in the same class in a bigger field that should ensure he gets genuine pace to suit his run on style.

Randwick Race 7 - 3 Neena Rock

Hard to have missed the impressive efforts this former NZ mare has produced in Group races since arriving in Sydney. Has come from well off the pace in both races that are the obvious lead-ups to this event, finding the line like a mare who will relish the testing mile at Randwick. Rates highly as a Group winner over this trip in New Zealand.

BLACKBOOK UPDATE from 4 October

Generalife - Desperately unlucky when he couldn’t get a clear run. Hard to beat in a suitable handicap.

Bachman - Couldn’t sprint under big weight. Will get better as distances increase.

Stimac - Nice debut. Should take plenty from the experience.

Crafty - Closed strongly for impressive third. Genuine Oaks contender.

Politeness - Not much went right but still found the line. Looking for 2000m.

Blackbook winners in last seven days - Brazen Beau, Lucia Valentina, Lucky Hussler, Gouldian.
