Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Hawkesbury Race 1 - 12 Impulsive Spirit

Made a terrific return to racing with a storming finish from last under 58.5kg to win over 1200m at Warwick Farm for his fourth win in 12 starts.

Class rise is countered by a 4.5kg drop in weight and there are no issues about him handling a soft track as three of his four wins have been in affected ground. The long run home at Hawkesbury should suit him admirably.

Hawkesbury Race 5 - 7 Rose Of Choice

Expecting a bold first-up showing from this classy mare after two excellent trial placings when she has gone to the line with plenty to offer.

She boasts a perfect in the money record in five first-up starts, relishes soft ground and also has two wins and a placing from three starts at 1300m. This race is a good fit for her fresh at attractive odds.

Hawkesbury Race 7 - 3 Rekindled Power

Paul Messara’s patience with this imposing Redoute’s Choice colt is set to bear fruit as we are yet to see the best of this classy prospect.

Estonian Princess can pay her way in Brisbane Picture: Racing and Sports
Was having just his fifth career start when he resumed with a fine third in strong G2 company over 1200m at Randwick during The Championships - note that he easily ran past the subsequent Gold Coast Guineas winner Nostradmus.

Is certain to relish the step up to 1400m, especially as he has shown adept ability when tried in heavy going in races and trials.

BLACKBOOK UPDATE from 25 April (Randwick & Gold Coast)

Wonderbolt - Strong return off a long break. Talented.

Drago - Has convictions but this was an encouraging first-up effort. Could have turned the corner.

Traveston Girl - Wide run did her no favours. High class filly.

Blueberry Hill - No luck in big field. Promising youngster.

Estonian Princess - Honest return under big weight. Will pay her way over the Brisbane carnival.

Green Moon - There is still life in this Melbourne Cup winner. Brisbane Cup?
