Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Canterbury Race 3 - 5 Sir Mako

Had made quite an impression since coming from NZ with strong wins at two of his last three starts. Rises 2kg on his last start win over 1900m at Rosehill but he was clearly the superior horse in the heavy going that day.

Should enjoy similar conditions here as he will again be suited by a keen pace likely to be set by several rivals.

Canterbury Race 7 - 7 Echo Gal

Won two lead-up trials in great style but just found 1200m in testing heavy conditions too much first-up at Rosehill when she blew out in the last 100m after looming to win.

She’s had a month to get over that run and will be much harder to run down over the shorter 1100m on a track where she is unbeaten in two starts.

Rates highly in this class if she finds the form that saw her placed in quality races like the Gold Coast Guineas and Heritage Stakes in previous preps.

Canterbury Race 8 - 3 Great Esteem

Came off a five weeks break to finish a creditable second over 1500m at Rosehill behind Hollywood Bound with last Saturday’s winner Marenostro third.

Appeals as the horse open the most improvement from that race with the weights in his favour this time.
