Canterbury Race 6 - 9 Pico Turquino
TRIAL COMMENTS
PICO TURQUINO - Loved her effort in her first trial on November 30 at Randwick when running right through the line. Missed the start slightly here and settled down in last. Worked through along the inside, picking up plenty of ground in the straight. Burst through into the clear and another superb effort here. Superb effort. Trialled again post the first up run.
SUMMARY
This mare had trialled on two occasions leading in to this preparation and The Trial Files were really taken by the way she had been working. She actually beat Start Wondering in a trial in impressive fashion on December 08 and we felt she’d be in for a super prep.
PICO TURQUINO started favourite in what was definitely a winnable race for her first-up and her run was simply enormous. The 5YO missed the start by a huge distance, approximately 5 lengths, and wasn’t in camera shot for the large majority of the 1400m race.
Patrick O’Donnell pulled her to the outside and what she did in the straight was amazing, rattling home down the outside and amazingly finishing second beaten by 0.2 of a length. Horses just don’t do what she did, especially in this grade.
She was instructed to trial to stewards satisfaction prior to running again and did so pleasingly on December 29.
Think she is flying this time in, feel this is a winnable race for her, she doesn’t mind it wet at all and want to be with her here on an each way basis.
