Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
Canterbury Race 1 - 4 Hair Trigger
There is something about this youngster! His debut run over 1000m at Kembla Grange in April was a real eye catcher and he confirmed that promise when he resumed to win over 1200m at Wyong on June 30, easily rounding up his rivals on a slow track with something in hand.
Poised to go on with it and while the topweight Thronum looks a classy type the 3kg weight differential brings them together on the affected track.
Canterbury Race 6 - 13 Cheeky Babe
Lightly-raced filly has missed a place just once in her six starts and is set to go on from an excellent first-up third over this course and distance on June 22 when she hit the line strongly from the back half after an awkward start.
She has since had the benefit of a soft second in a Randwick trial and this looks the right choice of race for the dual acceptor as she drops a handy 5kg from a favourable inside barrier.
Canterbury Race 9 - 6 Shahrazad
Impressive win over this course and distance at first start for eight months on July 6 when she cruised around the field three and four wide to win eased down in the heavy ground by a clear margin.
She clearly has an affinity for the Canterbury track - all her career wins and placings have been at this course - and she should again relish the soft conditions and expected strong tempo.
