Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Rosehill Race 1 - 2 Roosevelt

Made an impact on debut in March when he did plenty wrong but was still able to beat some handy types over 1100m at Warwick Farm. He has since confirmed his promise with two classy trials efforts, winning at Randwick before a hard held second at Warwick Farm.

He could have been a player over the carnival but maybe the Godolphin team have had their sights on Brisbane and suspect this will be his stepping stone to something much better.

Rosehill Race 8 - 7 Bastia

Top Newcastle stable has this honest gelding well placed to hit form at his third run since resuming after coming through the Provincial Championship series.

Resumed with a solid third in the Hawkesbury heat and then had nothing more than a barrier trial in the final over 1400m at Randwick when he was held up and forced back to last at the 200m before picking up strongly when clear to beat a third of the field to the line.

I Am Serious Picture: Racing and Sports

His record for a race of this class is excellent and getting out to 1500m third-up is definitely the right fit for him.

Rosehill Race 9 - 13 I Am Serious

Talented mare has had seven months off since we last saw her winning over 1500m at Randwick beating the classy Just Dreaming to extend her record to five wins from just seven starts.

She flies fresh and her recent trial second when full of running through the line at Canterbury points to the premier stable having her primed to pick up where she left off.

There should be good early pace that sets the race up nicely for her to hold the back of the leaders from the rails draw.
