Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Randwick Race 4 - 4 Touch Of Mink

Progressive filly will appreciate returning to 1600m for just the fourth time as her previous starts over this trip include a third in strong G2 company at Moonee Valley last spring (when still a maiden) and her breakthrough win at Kembla Grange in April.

She then went seven weeks to her next start here at Randwick when she won again over 1400m before running through the line late for a strong fifth over 1400m at Rosehill on June 16. A lot to like about her chances returning to her own sex.

Randwick Race 5 - 2 It's A Silvertrail

Commands respect simply because Sydney doesn’t see enough of Darren Weir away from the carnivals.

This stayer brings a different form line to this class and has been going well enough in Melbourne to be given plenty of respect in this company on his favoured soft ground over a distance that presents no problems.

Did enough last start at Moonee Valley when out of luck to be worth a gamble at his attractive early odds.

Randwick Race 6 - 12 Seahampton

This filly is a typical up and comer from the Waller stable who is having just her fifth start and should relish getting to 1400m for her third run after two noted efforts since resuming.

Stewards inquired into her first up effort over 1300m on a heavy track at Warwick Farm before she dropped back to 1250m at Canterbury and did her best work late for a close third after she an interrupted passage.

The stable is showing confidence in her potential by taking on the colts and that has been reflected by strong early betting support.
