Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Rosehill Race 1 - 9 Star Of The Seas

Progressive 4YO from top stable is in only his second preparation and gets conditions to suit after showing strong ability to handle affected tracks.

Yet to finish out of the money in his six starts with his two placings since resuming fitting him nicely for this class and distance after he jumped from 1100m first-up to finish strongly for second to the talented Archedemus over this course and distance last time carrying 57.5kg on a Soft 7.

Holds scope for more improvement and while he rises in grade that is offset by a 5kg drop in weight that will certainly be an advantage in the testing ground.

Rosehill Race 2 - 4 Easy Eddie

Genuine sprinter just goes about his business with no fuss, reflected by his excellent record of seven wins and eight placings from 19 starts with the salient point being that he keeps improving with each preparation.

He’s had an eight weeks freshen since he just failed to rack up a hat-trick of wins with an unlucky second in the Listed Takeover Target at Gosford and looks ready to go again after an excellent conditioning trial at Warwick Farm on March 7. Sure to be suited by the affected track, having won three from four on soft and heavy surfaces.

Rosehill Race 7 - 17 Jamaican Rain

The wet weather has tipped the scales firmly in favour of this talented Victorian mare who arguably has the best wet track from of any runner in this high class field, boasting five wins from six starts on soft and heavy tracks highlighted by her peak ratings performance in the Listed Glasshouse at the Sunshine Coast.

Her strong first-up win at Caulfield shows she is in the right form to make a statement at this level, suspecting that she will be ridden aggressively to take full advantage of her 6kg drop in weight under the testing conditions that will make the barrier draws of little consequence.
