Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Hawkesbury Race 4 - 6 Multaja

Talented filly is in rare form with impressive wins at last two starts, carrying 60kg to score over 1100m at this course in the heavy before swamping a big field in the G3 PJ Bell over 1200m at Randwick.

Meets the older mares this time but she will enjoy a kind run sitting on the back of the pace in this smaller field and the long Hawkesbury straight will give her ample opportunity to run down her main dangers.

Hawkesbury Race 7 - 2 Military Zone

Military Zone ready to go Picture: Steve Hart

Big winner of the Gosford Guineas when second-up in December and set for a repeat performance after solid first-up effort over 1200m at that track on April 10 when he was left with too much to do from the back half on a day that favoured the leaders.

Had been trialling in great style leading into that race and no doubt he will appreciate the extra 200m of this event under a favourable weight scale.

Hawkesbury Race 9 - 9 Signore Fox

Suited by this class and distance after taking on the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) on a soft track at Randwick on April 13 where his effort to be beaten only 1.5 lengths had considerable merit (hampered early/raced deep) after he was beaten only a half-length in heavy going by Echo Jet when second up over 1200m at Warwick Farm under 60kg.

Meets that horse 4.5kg better with the return to a good track and the booking of James McDonald from an ideal gate big factors in his favour.
