3 minute read

The Tasmanian Turf Club in Launceston host their second meeting in the space of three days with an eight-race card to be run on Friday night.

Picture: Tasracing

The track raced very well on Wednesday with the rail +3m, and it moves out to +6m 1200m to WP- remainder +3m. The track was upgraded to a good 4 during the Wednesday program, and a similar rated surface is expected.

LIGHTMEUPJAZZ (10) was luckless here last week and with a better run in transit she probably wins. She's had plenty of chances but deserves another chance. TWICE THE ICE (14) was much improved last time with a third placed effort on genuine soft ground and with a tongue tie being applied. She beat the fourth horse comfortably. MILES 'N' MILES (4) didn't enjoy the best of runs in transit in the same race after getting well back in the early stages. This is no harder. Although IRISH STORM (3) was given every chance when placed behind Sun Halo this trip, he's getting fitter, and his upside appeals third run in off a good break. FOREIGN LEGION (1) will give his usual sight either leading or near the speed. Suspect he'll find the front from gate 1. MISS PRIVATE (12) toughed it out well off a wide run last time out.

Staking Strategy: Lightmeupjazz would have been right in the finish last start if she'd seen daylight sooner. Meets similar opposition again, good each-way chance. 2 units each-way LIGHTMEUPJAZZ (10)

R2 Ladbrokes Blackbook Maiden, 1200m

MASTRETTA (14) would've caught the attention of video watchers at her second start. Tightened badly at the start she settled towards the rear then had an interrupted passage from the 400 before flying home late. The wide gate is the negative. MISS TANZANITE (11) first up run was very good. The form has already been franked with Dancing Wolf a convincing winner in class-one company on Wednesday night. GEEGEEHAILSTORM (9) trialled nicely at Longford in good time. The second placed runner in that trial has since won. HALEN (6) has been consistent this time in without winning. He can't draw a gate though. GEE GEES BROTHER (2) has each-way claims resuming. He's run a couple of decent races and maps well. RAPIDS AHEAD (7) did enough first up and will benefit.

Staking Strategy: The majority of these have no chance and it's not a surprise to see that Mastretta has been well found, particularly after the key scratching of Miss Tanazanite. Don't want to get too involved at the price, but she's the only one that interests. 2 units to win MASTRETTA (14)

R3 Members Discount Scheme Class 1 Handicap, 1400m

CAPE ZORO (6) found only one better after switching stables and being heavily backed resuming. Has a poor winning strike rate but it looks like he's an improver on the back of that first up run. AZONTO (4) started favourite and was only even to the line behind Magnaprime. She might be needing this trip now. KICKPASS (2) only won a moderate maiden back in May but he is lightly raced and does have upside. He resumes without any public trials. Check betting confidence with him.WITHIN SIGHT (3) did a good job from a wide draw to knock off her maiden. This is slighter tougher. DISTRUSTFUL AWARD (1) is a market watch first local start. Combing through his form suggests he'll be better over more ground. Has trialled okay. SYRUP (10) needs to lift on last week's effort after leading and fading , blinkers go on again.

Staking Strategy: Cape Zoro was good first up for the new stable. Can go one better here. Extra trip suits. 2 units to win CAPE ZORO (6)

R4 Members Handicap Class 3 Handicap, 1200m

MAKE A DECISION (2) return run was very good and without a lot of luck either after copping bad interference in the early stages of the race. He was doing his best work late. The resuming NAVAL ANTHEM (3) looks the likely leader and in the small field should be able to get the race on his terms. He raced well over the winter months. DANTES (1) is another one resuming. There's sure to be improvement to come but he's very capable fresh and can run well.  NGAPALI BEACH (7) next best on the quick turn-around.

Staking Strategy: Started out with seven runners and now we're left with only three. At least it's not a quaddie leg. Make A Decision was good resuming and his turn of foot might just get him over the line. 2 units to win MAKE A DECISION (2)

R5 Members Matter Benchmark 60 Handicap, 1100m

WHEELING (6) has returned in very good form winning first up and was only narrowly denied at his next. He'll come across and lead the last start winner and main danger DAY PERFORMER (3). Lightly raced GLORY MISSION (1) won a moderate maiden on debut then followed that up with a respectable fourth in a $50k 3yo race. He's drawn to get the right run and has trialled up nicely. NEEDS SUGAR (2) needs another win. It's been a while. She struck trouble at the start last time and the run wasn't as bad as it seems. Big chance if she brings her best. LIBERTY RAE (4) and MR FREEZE (7) have a case also.

Staking Strategy: Can make a case for most. Needs Sugar had excuses last start and has trialled well since. Her best is clearly good enough but she's a bit hit and miss. 1 unit to win NEEDS SUGAR (2)

R6 Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Benchmark 68 Handicap, 2100m

TAHITIAN WARRIOR (5) is showing good staying promise. Had the right run but won well over 2450m last start. He thrived on the soft ground. Back in trip and firmer footing are the queries. METAVERSE (2) can bounce back. He didn't cope with either the soft or the extra trip or both last time out. NOBLE EXCEPTION (7) wasn't far off in BM 76 grade last time. A good light weight chance again. THREE'S A CROWD (8) is racing consistently but struggling to win. BLONDE SUSPECT (1) looks suited out to this trip. He found the strongly behind Sharma's Last over 1600m 7 days ago. That's great form.JOHNNIE PINCH (3) has a hope ofcourse but he is always well found and he's yet to win around here after 8 tries .

Staking Strategy: There was plenty of merit in the win of Tahitian Warrior last start. Bit wary though of the firmer going tonight. 1 unit to win TAHITIAN WARRIOR (5)

R7 Members Are The Backbone Of Our Club Class 1 Handicap, 1600m

ROWING POWER (2) continues to race well without much luck. He's close to another win. THONATUS (1) went very close resuming and draws to box seat again. He won well this track and trip earlier in the year. RALPH THE ROCKET (4) has had clear excuses at his past two. Gets a stack of gear changes here and can bounce back.  LOVE NEST (7) always gives her all and finally got her maiden out of the way two starts back and wasn't far away in tougher grade last outing. THE PRAYER (5) has a case. She won convincingly here two starts back before losing all hope at her next after blowing the start. ALPINE KATE (8) does need to lift but should appreciate getting out in trip third run back and with blinkers going on she shapes up as a light weight threat.

Staking Strategy: Thonatus had no market expectation at all resuming and ran extremely well, strips fitter, maps perfectly again. Alpine Kate the value runner. Rowing Power a definite chance but his odds are a bit cramped. 3 units to win THONATUS (1), 1 unit to win ALPINE KATE (8)

R8 Reap The Benefits Of Membership Benchmark 60 Handicap, 1400m

BLOOMTIME (3) got into an awkward spot in the small field last start and was doing her best work late in a leader dominated race. WINNING WITNESS (2) has been close-up at her past two and gets in well after the claim. RING OF HONOUR (1) hasn't won for sometime but he's not racing badly. He's another who had no chance versus the lack of tempo last start. RODRICK'S SECRET (4) box seated and had all the favours in the run to win last time. This is only slightly harder. FAR AWAY HIT (5) was never in contention here a fortnight back  after beginning awkwardly. She worked home okay and will be better for it, 1400m looks a positive.SAXON MIST (7) hasn't got warm this prep but could be a sharp improver out to  a more suitable trip.

Staking Strategy: Bloomtime, Winning Witness and Ring Of Honour look the three standouts. Siding with the latter at the better odds. He's racing well. He just needs a bit of luck in running. 2 units to win RING OF HONOUR (1).
