PORT MACQUARIE: Sydney Starts Await In-Form Duo

3 minute read

Two locally trained gallopers, Sadler’s Wish and Shamekha’s Choice, will be tuned up for Sydney campaigns at Port Macquarie’s New Year’s Day TAB meeting on Tuesday.

Both the Marc Quinn-trained Sadler’s Wish and the Neil Godbolt-trained Shamekha’s Choice are also each being aimed at their third successive wins.

Sadler’s Wish will start in the Harelec Solar Power Specialists Benchmark 58 (2012m) and Shamekha’s Choice, a revelation since being switched to Godbolt from the Hawkes stable, will start in the Harelec Offgrid Solar Class Two (1006m).

Quinn is planning to test Sadler’s Wish at a night meeting at Canterbury Park towards the end of this month.

“He will start tomorrow then run here again in a race over 2000-metres on Town Plate day then go to Canterbury,” Quinn said.

The $17,000 Town Plate (1500m) will be the feature race at the meeting on Sunday 13 January.

“Those two runs should have him at his peak for Canterbury,” Quinn said. “The horse is well, had a swim yesterday and I expect him to win tomorrow. He has met all these horses before and beaten them.

“I think the horse he has to beat is Analie’s Daughter but this is her first time over the trip.”

Longer term there is a trip to the Albury Cup carnival in March on the schedule for Sadler’s Wish.

Quinn is preparing this year’s Port Macquarie Cup winner Falklands for the Albury Cup and will take Sadler’s Wish for the Adrian Ledger Memorial over 2400m.

“If Sadler’s Wish keeps progressing at his present rate he could be my Port Macquarie Cup horse next October,” Quinn said.

The regally-bred Shamekha’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice-Shamekha) has started twice for Godbolt for a six length win here on November 16 and a second win, by four and a half lengths, on December 3.

“This is the only suitable race for him before he goes to Warwick Farm on Wednesday week otherwise it was too far between runs.”

Godbolt will have one runner, Speeding to Win, in the Coca-Cola Cup at Port Macquarie on Friday. The big grey resumed with an eighth at Taree on December 23 but fell on his nose at the start and lost considerable ground.
