Daily Preview: Best Bet Moruya - July 25

3 minute read

The best could be saved until last at Moruya on Monday in the Darren Cooke Class 2 Handicap.

Seven races are conducted at Moruya on Monday on one of the few meetings conducted on a Soft 5 track in New South Wales this month.

The final event of the day is the Darren Cooke Class 2 Handicap (1300m) where topweight Duvet looks a strong chance of recording his first win since arriving at the Joseph and Jones stables.

The gelding resumed at Kembla Grange nine days ago when he was fair to a line in running sixth.

Duvet drops back from provincial level at Moruya on Monday where he appears well placed to make an impression.

The gelding will strip fitter for the outing at Kembla Grange and finds a substantially lesser race on paper, one which he is responsible for compressing the weights for.

The son of Bernardini is well drawn in gate 4 and should enjoy a favourable run in transit, ideally settled midfield or slightly better in a race lacking in strong early speed.

Rachel Hunt’s 2kg claim offsets the 61.5kg impost well and is meeting a majority of rivals on good weight terms.

It could be a case of class prevailing in the last at Moruya.

Sticking with the class horses at the top of the weights shapes as the way to go with Snipps Parade the apparent danger.

The son of Snippetson has been a model of consistency this campaign and fell only marginally short of another victory last start at Goulburn.

The honest three-year-old is another who like Duvet can enjoy all of the favours in transit behind the anticipated speed likely set by another key player in Freedom Call.

Freedom Call wasn’t far off a hat-trick of wins when prominent throughout over 1208m at the Sapphire Coast 22 days ago.

While drawn wide, the mare has the early speed to work across and dictate.

If afforded a soft time in transit, the Statue Of Liberty mare could take some catching.

Lad About Town resumes in a winnable race after what was a fair autumn preparation.

While something of a non winner, each of his career wins have come when first up.

The race after the above mentioned quartet falls away noticeably and suspect it will be Duvet who can capitalise on a weak race to round out proceedings at Moruya.
