Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for December 17.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Moe, Cairns and Bordertown.
MOE: RACE 7 @ 4:45 PM
RUADA (5) is a leader who can roll across from the awkward gate. Missed a nose stepping up to trip at Mornington and then went back and was ambushed late in proceedings beaten 2.5L. Rates best and this is a winnable assignment. KALENDS (3) was nudged out twice before winning in this grade. Forget the latest where she didn't go a yard on the heavy track. She has a handy 2kg claim and maps for the run of the race. A chance to bounce. WHAT A JOURNEY (6) tackled a staying trip here 11 days ago beaten 1.8L. She has pieces of form that stack up and can't be ruled out. LANDGRAVE (7) resumed on the heavy over 1700m and will be better for it. May need one more, but his best would have him right in the finish.
SELECTIONS: Backing Ruada.

CAIRNS: RACE 2 @ 3:08 PM
Tricky race to assess with a few of these facing the starter for the first time. Of the raced brigade GOLD CLASSIC (2) hasn't done much wrong with a win and a second from just two starts to date and has race experience over most of these. Wiggins on board and rates the testing material. The well-related GYMNOSOMATA (5) (half to Listed winner and G3 placed Viren's Army) is at the races for the first time but has shown ability at the trials and any market support must be noted. MR OREO (3) placed at Townsville on debut and will have derived a stack of benefit from that race day experience. In the mix. MISS PIERATA (6) is trained on course and a watch on betting is advised. GEM OF SCOTS (4) rounds out the selections in a race hard to line up.
SELECTIONS: Gold Classic to win.
BORDERTOWN: RACE 4 @ 3:05 PM
EMERALD REWARD (1) has returned in great order this campaign, unlucky not to make it two on the trot last start. Peaking now and is a leading player. KNIGHT DANCER (2) got off the mark stylishly last start at Clare when scoring with a bit up his sleeve. Re-unites with Brooke King who was on board last start. Must be respected now that the penny has dropped. FIRST RETURN (3) returns from a short break and has scored first-up from a spell before. Solid claims on best form. CUBAN WATERS (6) only warmed to her task late fresh in town, then battled on gamely into the placings last start at Balaklava. Should be hitting her straps now.
SELECTIONS: Emerald Reward to win.
