Norris wins Abu Dhabi GP as McLaren celebrate F1 crown

3 minute read

Lando Norris has won the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to ensure McLaren lifted the F1 constructors' title.

Lando Norris has delivered the Formula One constructors' title for McLaren by winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with a commanding drive.

The Briton effectively had to go it alone on Sunday to hold off the challenge of Ferrari as his Australian teammate Oscar Piastri was forced off the track at the first corner in a collision with champion Max Verstappen, who was later penalised for his attempted overtake.

With Piastri dropped to the back of the field before he battled back to finish 10th, Norris held on for the win with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. second and his teammate Charles Leclerc surging up to third from 19th on the grid.

Alpine's Jack Doohan, the 16th Australian driver to start a Formula One race, finished 15th of the 16 finishers in the 20-car race.

Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton was fourth in his last race for Mercedes before joining Ferrari next year.

McLaren, whose last crown came with Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard at the wheel back in 1998, finished 14 points clear of Ferrari for the team title.
