Newcastle Jockey Club will mark the start of the calendar racing year with a FREE ENTRY day at Broadmeadow on Saturday January 14.
Because of the 10-week break – as a result of the closure of the course proper for remedial works – the NJC has decided to 'reward' racegoers by offering free admittance for the meeting, which coincides with Magic Millions day at the Gold Coast.
Eight races will be staged; the first at 12:40pm and last at 5:20pm. The rail is in the true position for Saturday's meeting, and the track is rated a Good 3.
There will also be plenty of Newcastle interest at the Gold Coast with trainers Alan Scorse (Negombo and Wears Red Feathers) and Kris Lees (My Man of War) having runners.
Additionally, jockey Robert Thompson has six rides including Wears Red Feathers.
