Again we face the prospect of a track with some give in it this week if the forecast showers eventuate through to Saturday.
Happy to be sticking with the flying Darren Weir stable with his 4yo Red Corner who comes off a series of midweek standard runs in Victoria.
Three times in a row he was in the placings at Sandown and then was under two lengths from Charmed Harmony at Bendigo. That horse ran on Wednesday and literally hacked up by eight lengths in an outstanding win.
He looks to just get the perfect run in behind the speed and is ready now for the 1550m. We may get better odds during the day with the exposed form of the rivals.
Not greatly luxurious odds about the play but Pit Boss can go back to back here.
He was odds on and did a few things wrong first up at Balaklava. Importantly he rises in distance and any little bit of effect on the track will only help him.
His first win came on heavy going over this very course and distance. Probably thinking the odds that were on offer early will not last come race time.
The horse who could well go around unders on Saturday is Le Mans.
Mick Price has a top record bringing the right horses over to Adelaide but this horse has started to find various ways to get beaten.
He’s now up to 1950m and has some form around decent horses. In fact the winners of the last three runs he had in Melbourne all contested the Queensland Derby last week, including the winner Sonntag.
That said it has been 13 starts and nine months since he scored anywhere and that was his maiden win. Thinking the early price was too short.
