Leek Runner Has 'Cent' Of Victory At Geelong

3 minute read

Spirit Cent has been in very good form of late and looks very close to a win when stepping out in the Rex Gorell Volkswagen Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000m) at Geelong

Having finished runner up in all three races this campaign at this course, the seven-year-old gelding backs up quickly here and with the much needed 4kg claim will be hard to hold out.

Spirit Cent, from the John Leek stable has a good record at the course, winning five of 18 and dropping back to the 1000m should suit, having finished in the placings 10 of his 14 outings.

Spirit Cent has backed up in just seven days three times previously, winning two of them and running a close second on the other occasion which bodes well for today.

Likely to push forward once again from barrier 7 and with the Ben Thompson 4kg claim will only be required to carry 55kg.

Meets only small field once again and recent form rates well on weight adjusted Timeform ratings.

Remagen Bridge resumes from a spell and generally runs well when fresh. Tuned up with a barrier trial at Tatura leading into this and the scratching of Prince Rahy brings him right into it.

Should get a good run from barrier 3 and despite looking for a bit more ground has won his only time over the 1000m and is worth including here.

Prussian Power also rates a mention, winning three back at this C/D and comes into this off a last start second placings.

Drawn the rails and on best form rates very well in this company with Jason Benbow to go back on board.

Likely to be in the finish again and is certainly right up to winning a race like this.

These look the main chances in the race with a couple of each way chances that includes, Source Code resuming from a spell and Suvarna who has been consistent of late.

Suvarna has produced good form at this course in recent times and tends to do her best racing over the 1000m trip and could run a race at odds here.

Source Code generally takes a run or two to get going but certainly can feature in the placings.
