Say From SA – September 13

3 minute read

Not a great week on the ‘punt’ last Saturday in South Australia with both the Play Of The Day and Each Way Play failing to deliver.

As they say this week is another week and hopefully we can bounce back.

Racing on Saturday is on the roomier Morphettville circuit where the rail is in the true position and the track rated a Dead5.

But be mindful there are showers forecast during the day.

Miss Wynette, who was successful for us a couple of weeks ago, can notch a winning hat-trick by taking out Race 8, the Holdfast Insurance Brokers Handicap over 1600m.

Her last two victories have come at the Morphettville circuit. She scored in a Benchmark 72 race on August 16 before landing the prize in a Benchmark 82 race two weeks ago.

Last start Miss Wynette was able to get in on the minimum and trainer Tony McEvoy has been able to do that again with the mare being asked to carry just 54kg on Saturday.

Jason Holder had the mare well positioned in the run riding the pace throughout last time and from barrier four he is sure to again have her in a good position in the run.

And an added plus is that McEvoy has been in great form of late.

From his last 50 runners he has produced 12 winners and 13 minor placings and that trend looks sets to continue here on Saturday with Miss Wynette.

Daytona Grey, a runner in Race 5, the Tattsbet Handicap over 1200m, appeals as one at good value.

Prepared by Leon Macdonald and son-in-law Andrew Gluyas, Daytona Grey was a last start seventh in a hot Flying Handicap over 1000m on Balaklava Cup Day.

It was pretty hard to make ground on that day and Daytona Grey finished three lengths from Dubawi Gold after racing just beyond midfield.

His previous run was in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at weight-for-age and he finished fourth behind Riziz, a solid performance.

Despite being allocated 60.5kg in the Benchmark 90 race, apprentice Caitlin Forrest will offset that weight with her 3kg allowance.

Importantly she should be able to get a good smother on the gelding from the inside draw and with the step back-up to 1200m the pair should be hard to hold out at the finish.

Good luck and good punting.
