Brisbane Best- January 24

3 minute read

Architect hit the line well for second at the Gold Coast last start and looks well placed at Doomben on the back of that effort.

The four-year-old gelding has not been far away in all five runs this campaign and gets his chance when stepping out in the Trent’s Pre Pledge Benchmark 85 Handicap (1200m).

Architect (Race 6 #2) rates well clear on best form in this field and has shown some form on heavy tracks in the past with the track currently a heavy 10 and more rain on the way.

The David Lawlor-trained runner produced a good run when midfield in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes at this C/D three back and has not been far away in two outings since.

Michael Cahill takes the ride for the first time and if he runs anything near his best recent form he will prove too good for these.

Palmera Lad (Race 4 #8) has failed to win a race in a while now but finds himself in a fairly competitive race today and on best form looks well placed.

Last seen when running 10th behind Spurtonic In the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast, beaten 3.4L and drops well back in class for this.

Goes up to the mile where he has won previously and from barrier 13 would expect the four-year-old to get back in the run.

His recent form stacks up pretty well for a race like this and currently at $8 looks a good each way chance.

Trainer Roslyn Pratt has elected to put the winkers on for the first time and expect him to be somewhere in the finish.

Main dangers appear to be Sigmun and Forest Way who both come into this with decent form.

The heavy track will no doubt make things interesting with more rain on the way but he has been far from disgraced in four previous outings on rain affected tracks.
