Disappointing day in terms of numbers in Adelaide this weekend but tipping a class runner as the best.
The horse we’ll go for is Essay Raider in the feature sprint on the day.
He hasn’t won first up since his debut but note those he’s run into since then. They include the likes of Lonhspresso in a G2, Psychic Mick, Driefontein in the G3 Irwin and Karacatis in the Wylie.
Over the 1000m it will be on up front but in those circumstances, and in a small field, the backmarkers don’t have to work hard to tack on and stalk the leaders.
Not many of the rivals in dazzling form and so just hope the flying Clare Lindop can find galloping room early enough to unleash Essay Raider’s turn of foot.
Onto the next where we hope there is plenty of money for those with picket fences in the Rain Lover Plate because we think one of Tony McEvoy’s Sydney team Lucky Lucky Lucky can head west and run well.
No doubt he is coming back in ground from three, mile and a half runs but the class of those races is superior to this, albeit not by much.
He likes to be able to tack onto the back of speed in front and thinking that will be the case here.
At the odds on offer he’s an each way bet.
