The Melbourne Mail - April 4

3 minute read

It’s Easter, and the Melbourne Mail is hoping to rise to the occasion.

Sea Spray can rise again third up Picture: Racing and Sports

The Melbourne Mail is a disciple to form-patterns and one ascends from the good book, the form guide, in race five.

On the first day of this campaign the John Moloney-trained Sea Spray didn’t have much go her way, nailed to the fence back in the field at the Valley. A case for forgiveness if ever there was one.

The second day was a day of reflection for punters. Sea Spray was put into the watch and learn basket heading into the Kewney and she showed punters that she’s back in fine order, closing the race off nicely into fifth.

Now, on the third day, punters will hope Sea Spray, an impressive course and distance winner third up in the spring, can rise again.

She’s got the form on the board, and her form pattern fits both the filly and the occasion that is Easter. It’s time to give generously, and bookmakers are doing just that in early betting, with as much as $5.00 offered up for followers.

If Patty Moloney can part the seas from barrier 13 we can expect there to be plenty in the collection plate come the time of reckoning.

Of course it’s a big time of the year for the Sistine Chapel, and it’s also a big time of year for Sistine Demon who is out to win a second Victoria Handicap in a row.

He’s spent some time wandering in the wilderness since then but he showed signs last time that his star may be about to burn brightly again.

He has stiff opposition on Saturday in the form of WA star Disposition but at the odds it may be worth banking on Sistine Demon to resurrect his best form.

THE MELBOURNE MAIL

Bet Of The Day: Race 5 #3 Sea Spray @ $5.00

Each Way Play: Race 8 #7 Sistine Demon @ $10.00

Last week we had a lovely time Under The Louvre after getting Lucky at the Valley the night prior.

It was good for the Mail to get back on the board after three weeks of place-getters but we are now six from nine in 2015 in well in front. Long may it continue!
