Sydney Specials: Randwick – October 10

3 minute read

Chris Waller should continue his stellar start to season 2015/16 with a host of Group 1 chances across Sydney and Melbourne this weekend.

The Spring Carnival focus has moved south to Melbourne following what was a Super Saturday of racing last weekend at Randwick.

Chris Waller has an excellent chance of a Group 1 double at Caulfield on Saturday in the form of Kermadec in the Caulfield Stakes and Press Statement in the Caulfield Guineas.

The leading Rosehill trainer will be well represented in Sydney’s final Group 1 of 2015 courtesy of Vanbrugh in the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

Vanbrugh Picture: Racing and Sports

Vanbrugh will start as dominant favourite in the event after he proved a class above four of the same rivals he faces here when taking out the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes a fortnight ago.

It was an impressive display, one suggestive of a colt searching for the 2000m of the Spring Champion Stakes.

The Gloaming Stakes is clearly the strongest form line taken into the Spring Champion Stakes with main market danger Too Good For These rating well below Vanbrugh on form he brings down from Brisbane with him.

Usually one to settle back in his races, the likes of Jadeer and Flying Achilles can provide a solid tempo up front for Vanbrugh, one which should allow him to get back and rattle home strongly late.

The even money Vanbrugh who has a clear class edge over his rivals is well worth taking and it ideally will be a case of simply sitting back and enjoying.

Early in the program, Magic Of Dreams shapes as a strong each way play in the TFE Hotels Benchmark 85 Handicap (1200m).

The Kris Lees-trained mare was strong on resuming at Wyong when placing behind a rival she faces here in Kasiano Lad.

Both were impressive and Kasiano Lad has since come out and franked the form with a dominant win at this course and distance.

Magic Of Dreams has been kept ticking over with an 800m Newcastle barrier trial.

The pair clash 36 days later where Magic Of Dreams enjoys a 4.5kg weight swing over the favourite Kasiano Lad.

It is a sizeable turnaround and considering the strength of her maiden campaign which boasted a Provincial Championships Heat success, the mare warrants plenty of consideration second run from a spell.
