The Melbourne Mail - January 23

A key jockey switch has the Melbourne Mail quite keen on Del Prado in race five at Moonee Valley this weekend.

Del Prado is racing better than ever Picture: Racing and Sports

In the last couple of weeks we have discussed the slight tweak in the punting mentality required to win betting tournaments at TopBetta - Which you can check out here - as opposed to just winning on the punt.

Finding high-probability horses to quickly build a bank for the home stretch is key in the lucrative TopBetta Tournaments and on Saturday Del Prado looks one of those bank builders at the Valley.

Del Prado has come back better than ever this prep, winning impressively and running to a new peak rating first up before holding that rating last time without the best of luck.

Today an in-form Damien Oliver switches aboard, and that is always a flag for horses from the Corstens yard.

Since Leon and Troy teamed up the stable have struck at 12%. When Oliver has ridden for them that number has risen to 20%, and this is a continuation of the pattern that Leon and Oliver had over a longer stretch of time where Leon struck at 12% but that rate doubled with Oliver aboard to 24% and returned punters a profit of 7.9% on turnover - great numbers when you consider that with Oliver comes market expectation.

Del Prado is a horse with a good winning record that has come back in career best form and a jockey switch that has proven a long term winner. Perfect scenario to throw the chips on the TopBetta table.

For an each way play we will look to the next where Prima looks a roll to big in the early betting.

The favourite is Radical and that's fair enough given he stamped himself as ready to win with a strong close at Caulfield last time.

However, Radical has got a draw that is going to require a couple of good decisions to get the right run while Prima, from barrier three, just jumps straight into a good spot on speed.

He ran far and away his best race in Australia last time out and that effort should stand him in good stead for a race like this one.
