A huge weekend of racing kicks of tonight at Moonee Valley with what looks a terrific betting card.

Ken's Dream winning at Moonee Valley Picture: Racing and Sports

With top class racing right across the three-day Grand Final weekend we will want to get off to a good start, and we think we can, with good betting opportunities coming up early on tonight's Moonee Valley card.

The second race on the card gives punters a third look at Ken's Dream and our first two viewings have been hugely promising.

In just two starts Ken's Dream has managed to earn himself a Timeform rating of 110p, placing him in a fairly select group of horses to achieve that mark so soon. Looking back at the past 10 years we see that two thirds of horses that found themselves so highly rated after just two starts went on to win at Group 1 level.

Of course Ken may ultimately fall into the 33% that don't go on to win at the highest level but he's made an extremely bright start and off a short freshen up he looks fairly conservatively placed in a fairly run of the mill three-year-old plate at the Valley tonight.

Prices around the 2/1 mark are appealing.

The third race on the card is the Group 3 JRA Cup and it looks a competitive edition in 2016.

We have Tom Melbourne marked on top (again!) but as a beaten favourite in his last three it is fair to say that patience is running thin.

There's an each way play away from him that makes some appeal - Bold Sniper.

He's an enigmatic customer but he does have good talent and that talent tends to come to the fore when they let him roll. With good speed expected tonight (our friend Tom Melbourne a key part of that) we can expect to see Bold Sniper allowed to run at his tempo. That makes him fairly appealing around the $15.00 mark.
