Best From The West - September 23

3 minute read

The Adam Durrant trained Final Salute appears well placed to make a winning return when due to contest the final event at Belmont on Saturday.

Previously trained by Team Williams, Final Salute joins fellow Bob Peters' owned galloper Disposition to make the switch this preparation.

Only lightly raced, Final Salute came a long way in a short period, rounding out his last preparation finishing fifth in the W.A.T.C. Derby [2400m].

A winner of two of his 10 starts, he has placed on a further four occasions and has placed in two of three attempts first up.

His sole trial in the lead up was very good and he is unbeaten in his sole attempt over this trip.

Pike appears a key booking (rode him in the trial) and has placed in five of six attempts aboard the gelding.

The bar plates notably come off for the first time and he has drawn to receive all the favours.

On best form he is very well placed and with odds of $3.80 on offer, more than happy to bet up in the last.

The Team Pearce trained Money Maher has been very impressive in both starts back this time in and appears poised to notch up the hat-trick in the second event.

While no flash odds ($2.00), it is easy to mark him odds-on and while likely to be spotting them all a start on straightening, he should prove very hard to hold out.
