The Chester Manifold is invariably a good betting contest and things look no different this year with a competitive edition of the race.

It's Chester Manifold Day at Flemington Picture: Racing and Sports

Early favourite for the race is the very talented and quickly improving Dollar For Dollar who resumes from a short break with an obviously strong winning chance.

The betting edge in the race may sit with Lite'n In My Veins though, after the former West Australian got his eastern odyssey back on track with a strong closing performance at Sandown last time.

He went to Sandown fresh after a well-fancied Flemington flop and while no match for the winner, who was in the zone and very well ridden from the front, he beat the rest nicely and shaped as though better than the final margin.

He shouldn't have to take a big step up on that form to force Dollar For Dollar to be very much on his game to get the prize and at $5.50 we're keen to play.

For an each way play we roll back to the fourth race on the card, a really competitive fillies race where five last start winners take their chance.

We're looking away from the winners, though, with race won by Light Romance a fortnight ago the formline we fancy and the fourth placegetter there, Bellegano, appealing at double figure odds.

Bellegano has run well in two strongly run races this time in, finishing on the back of the placegetters in both, and looks ready to run an improved race at 1400m with that racing under her belt now.

She did just that third up last preparation and we fancy she can do the same again here.
