Easter Cup day is generally a very good punting day at Caulfield.
Top Of The Range got back a long way and over-raced at the mile at Flemington.
He was strung up between runners and only needed a run in the straight. That only came at the 200m mark and he missed by a nose.
The son of Savabeel looks like he really needs the added furlong and on breeding that is the case.
That little drop in weight is only going to be positive and he won here just two runs ago so he’s found a good race.
Earlier, a really good first up mare is Crystal Fountain and she will be value in the mares sprint.
She won resuming twice and then first up last Spring she missed by a head on Geelong Cup day in the Listed race.
By the time she got to Ascot she was flat so this is a good target race.
This event isn’t up to those black type contests but it just needs to hold up with eight runners for the price to remain.
