Best From The West : Ascot – 30th March 2019

3 minute read

It is WA Oaks day on Saturday plus a WA Derby lead in too with the Melvista.

Ascot Picture: Racing and Sports

Going to play in those two feature three year old races.

Don’t think there was any fluke at all in the win of Platoon in the JC Roberts two weeks back and we’ll take him in that Melvista Stakes.

He has always threatened to do that and the market place didn’t respect him. He’d just always given away too much start.

However now he’s getting to a journey he will lap up like his sire Playing God who placed in an Australian Cup along with winning multiple Kingston Town Classics.

Punters will likely look to the second horse again from the last outing but on the line he was holding him easily and was well clear after the line.

We may just get better odds once more.

We have been on Assetro all the way to the WA Oaks so no need to jump off now after the last run.

The Blackfriars filly has been improving as the distances got longer and she battled hard over the last bit in the Natasha Stakes.

She looks like the mile and a half is what is required with no turn of foot. This is almost the same field and this time she has a better gate.

You can save on Dark Choice who was a fast finisher after being held up before the corner on the inside in that same lead up race.
