We are back to Morphettville and the carnival has begun.
About 16 years ago the Freedmans sent a battled hardened three year old gelding who had been through the Melbourne Autumn and Sydney classic races to Adelaide to end his season.
Mummify was that warrior and he’d win the Chairman’s and then the SA Derby.
Now in 2019, you can expect Anthony Freedman will not be thinking Declarationofheart has gone too long as he runs here and then likely to the Derby.
The Randwick edition was effectively a race dominated by those saving ground with the leader going barrier to box and the second horse railing home. The Chosen One has already come out of the race and won the Packer Plate.
This is only a decent field with few having group credentials and this son of Declaration of War was well backed near the end of betting.
From a lovely draw, he only needs to have enough dash in his legs and he can be winning the Chairman’s.
Reckon there is value in the Nitschke Stakes with the filly Tahitian Dancer.
She was nominated for the Hawkesbury Guineas and Crown but they have elected to go to Adelaide.
That was a very solid form race at Randwick when not beaten far. Don’t forget in the Spring she was not far away from Mystic Journey and Pohutukawa in races either side of the Thousand Guineas.
Her best runs are at 1400m and we are getting great odds to find out if she can beat the colts.
