Race by race Kalgoorlie preview - Saturday, 2nd November 2024

3 minute read

Racing heads to Kalgoorlie for the secondary meeting on Saturday with six races on offer.

Peter Fernie prepares another strong hand on his home track with the progressive Jet Planes in the last one to keep an eye on.

Don't forget, you can watch every meeting in the west live and free on 7Plus and Racing WA

Race 1: SALTBUSH PASTORAL CO HANDICAP (1760m)

NO WHISPERING (1) rolled along at a good clip here nearly 2 weeks ago and kept up a strong gallop to hold on to a comfortable win by nearly a length. He has to travel 1760m this time and may find the pain setting in late but in a similar field, he could see it through again. ONEMOREFORLEO (3) had no answer to the top pick in the same race last time out but won't be bothered by the extra journey and does meet that runner better off at the weights this time. Hard to beat. DANCING JACK (4) posted a brace of wins out in the bush recently and will be suited by the small field here. Stick with him. SOLDIERS CAMP (2) was runner-up behind the top pick last time out and has won over this trip which gives him an advantage. He is always thereabouts.

Race 2: BARDI CERTIFIED ORGANIC BEEF HANDICAP CO HANDICAP (1300m)

HIGH PRESSURE (3) found the company a bit rich last time out and was fifth before that when setting the pace and weakening late. He is much better placed in this and is good enough to take it out. STARTTHEFRIAR (6) is a durable veteran who still has a zest for racing after winning at Leinster a fortnight ago, scoring by a length. That win broke his win drought and he won't find this much harder. A good draw should see him in the finish again. KICK A GOAL SON (2) could not match the second pick at Leinster last start and only battled on into fourth place. The blinkers are back on and he can make amends. CAN'T BE DONE (1) has a good record at country level and is still building up to his peak fitness after a last-start second here nearly 2 weeks ago. The extra furlong to travel will help him and he could go one better with the right run.

Race 3: BULGA DOWNS STATION MAIDEN (1100m)

WEAPONS HOT (1) improved from a poor resuming run at Belmont to finish third at York just over 3 weeks ago. He will be peaking third up and this field is not strong. Hard to beat. IFFUBLUSH (4) has been trying to win a race for some time but has been in the money on 7 occasions, including her last run here just under a fortnight ago. She is dropping back to a sprint trip and certainly deserves a winning turn. AWEEMAWAY (2) ruined his chances of a closer finish last start after missing the kick and is normally better than that. He has a good draw and a top 3 finish is well within reach. Stick with him. THATSTHEWAYILIKEIT (7) has had 3 trials at Belmont this season and will be forward in condition for this fresh-up assignment. He is having his first run at country-level and should not be underestimated. A market watch is advised.

Race 4: TABtouch REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - THE ROAD TO ASCOT (1200m)

SECRET ATTIRE (4) is a very progressive local mare who has not missed a cheque in 7 starts on her home course, including all of her 3 career wins. She only came to the end of her run late here nearly 2 weeks ago when finishing third and should be spot-on with her fitness now. On top. SCIENCE DEGREE (7) has thrived since making the move from Victoria and has been showing plenty of pace in his races. He drops 6kg in weight from his last run and should be right in the finish again. EEVALINA (1) hardly ever runs a bad race and was runner-up by a nose here 4 weeks ago in a stronger grade. She is knocking on the door and her next win is not far away. BLUE CAN TALK (5) showed a lot of courage last time out when finishing runner-up here by half-a-length. That was her best run this prep and her fitness will only improve from there. She benefits from a 3kg and she has a strong winning chance in this.

Race 5: TONKIN NEWMARKET HANDICAP (1200m)

DUBLIN RED (1) did not take long to find winning form from the local Peter Fernie stable and scored by a nose here nearly 2 weeks ago. She stays in the same grade and only has to cope with a 2.5kg weight rise to be hard to beat again. BLITZEM BABE (6) was only beaten by a nose behind the top pick last time out and meets that runner better off at the weights this time. She won't have any excuses with her fitness third up and can turn the tables. TWIST OF GOLD (4) was run down after setting the pace here last start in the same race as the top 2 picks. She has a tongue tie on for the first time which should help her breathing. There will be no excuses with her fitness and is ready to put her best hoof forward. Each-way value. THE LIONS' GATE (3) did a good job fresh up in her first local start when running fourth here a month ago. He has enough early pace to secure a soft run early and should finish closer this time. Include in all combinations.

Race 6: ROADS TRAINS OF AUSTRALIA PTY LTD HANDICAP (1400m)

JET PLANES (3) travelled strongly on the pace last start and kept up a strong gallop to score by a length when clearing his maiden status at only his second start. He has his best draw yet and should secure the run of the race early on. He has plenty of scope and can take the next step immediately. LADY DUCATI (8) franked her unlucky effort here 2 starts back with a good win here nearly 2 weeks ago when scoring by half-a-length. She carries the same weight and there is no reason why she can't win again. KIMBERLEY ROSE (10) closed off her run strongly when finishing runner-up behind the top pick last start. She has a good draw and is capable of turning the tables. RULING DAME (2) was runner-up as favourite here last start and has turned a corner recently with her form. The drop back from a mile will suit her and she will be right in the finish again.
