Racing at Randwick on a December summer Saturday and Simon Thomas has a pair of specials.

Sydney Specials Picture: Racing and Sports

Waiting for the last of the day at Randwick on Saturday in the TAB BM78 Handicap (1300m), with the exciting Yorkshire who comes up as our best bet.

The John O'Shea and Tom Charlton-trained son of Snitzel created a huge impression in his first preparation, winning three of his four races in quick succession.

His high cruising speed saw him graduate from Maiden grade to Benchmark 72 class in the space of just over a month last time in, and was spelled immediately with bigger races on the agenda.

Yorkshire returns from a four-month spell tomorrow, and by all reports he's trained on strongly with the two searching trials.

Kerrin McEvoy rides him for the first time at the races after riding him in both his trials, and finds a winnable assignment over the 1300m.

The four-year-old will sit on the good tempo and prove hard to hold out from the nice draw and currently hovers around the $3 mark.

Our next best comes up in Race 8, the Jame Squire BM100 Handicap (1400m), with the tough six-year-old gelding Uzziah.

Scott Aspery has done a tremendous job with him this preparation, winning twice from four starts.

Last start he was a total forgive after coming out fast from the wide gate before tiring to run twelfth in the Group 3 Festival Stakes (1500m), in the soft (7) conditions on November 30.

Uzziah's freshened up nicely since, and will take control early and prove hard to run down in this easier contest.

Tim Clark rides and the $4 on offer looks good value.
