Race by race Bunbury preview - Sunday, 22nd December 2024

3 minute read

Bunbury hosts eight races on a warm Sunday in the West.

With the meeting being transferred from Pinjarra, the south-west town holds a solid card of racing, with Gi Gi Pops in the final event of the day a highlight on the card.

You can watch all the action from Bunbury live and free on 7Plus and Racing WA

Race 1: TABtouch SUPPORTS PINJARRA PARK MAIDEN (2200m)

BOYZ LITE UP (8) stuck on well over 2000m here last start and he'll benefit from that run under his belt. This looks a similar race and he jumped the favourite on that occasion. Building into his campaign nicely and can land the knockout blow this time. SPANISH KAT (4) hasn't been far away of late and beat home Boyz Lite Up most recently. He does draw a little awkward this time, but he has the speed to cross from the wide alley. Can be up front and prove hard to run down. AGRABAH (2) hasn't been far away his past couple and is knocking on the door of his maiden victory. The tongue tie goes back on and while he does need a touch of luck from the draw, his ratings are good enough to be right in the finish once again. DECISION MAKER (7) improved last start and won't be far away. DR ON CALL (3) is best of the rest.

Race 2: WIREPOWER ELECTRICAL SERVICES MAIDEN (1000m)

DE GRANDHOMME (8) is the one to beat off a brilliant run over this course and distance on debut where he clocked some good splits late in the race. He's drawn beautifully for this race and it doesn't look an overly strong maiden. Just has to run up to his debut figures to be winning this. CHINESE DENTIST (9) has shown enough at the trials and was around De Grandhomme in his most recent trial at Lark Hill. He's had two trials this time in work to and he won't be far away if he can run up to his trial efforts. HELL'S CITI (2) is better than he showed at the end of last campaign and he wasn't beaten far here first-up last campaign. He's drawn ideally for the straight course and he possesses good early speed. Should be right in the finish. VERNACULAR (10) won a trial in readiness for this and is expected to go close. OVATHEBAR (6) is next best.

Race 3: JDB PLUMBING & BATHROOMS MAIDEN (1400m)

BLUE PEPPER (8) was just too far back to feature at Bunbury last time out, though it does look as though she will relish the extra ground. She maps for a much better run today as well with CJP remaining in the saddle. Ticks plenty of boxes and she should be winning this. NIGHT'S FURY (10) is another debutant, this time for the Summer Dickson stable. She's a half-sister to a couple of smart types and her recent trial suggests she has some ability as well. Steve Parnham hops on board which is a positive sign and she can go close. PAT'S LAST BANG (11) can be right in the finish if she runs up to her most recent trial effort. OPAL TANGO (7) can improve on the first-up effort.

Race 4: REMEMBERING MICAH HANDICAP (1200m)

MONEY TREES (2) looks well placed today following a strong win over 1000m at this track last time out, getting the job done by 0.5L. The form out of the race has been great and he should be able to find the front again from the barrier. Still has plenty of upside and he can continue to work through the grades. ONLY EYES FOR HIM (3) bounced back last start following a disappointing effort two back when running home strongly over this trip at Belmont. He might find this a little easier this time around and Gaerth's 1.5kg claim comes in handy. Can build on the last start effort and won't be far away. COONDLE (1) was okay without setting the world alight down the Pinjarra straight last time out and getting back around a bend may suit. She's drawn well and the 3kg of Cooper see's him get in nicely at the weights. Up in trip looks to suit and he won't be far away. SUPER SNIPPY (4) won well last start at Pinjarra and has to be included.

Race 5: A NIGHT ON THE TILES MAIDEN (1400m)

ULTIMATE DEEL (7) is a lightly-raced prospect who had plenty of fans in his debut campaign, starting as favourite twice albeit without winning. Suspect he'll be better now with that campaign under his belt and he should appreciate this trip first-up. Has more upside than his rivals and will be very hard to beat. BIONDO (2) closed off strongly over 1650m at Belmont last start following a disappointing run over this trip two back. He rates highly off his latest effort and now he draws a much better gate. Should be in the finish if he runs up to his latest figures. REEL THEMOFF (3) gets the blinkers first time today after fading out of contention at Belmont most recently. Carbery hops in the saddle now and dropping back in trip looks to enhance his chances. Can play a role. DANEA ROCK (8) won't be far away if she runs to form.

Race 6: ALAN GRANT MEMORIAL HANDICAP (1000m)

GO GO GROMMET (3) is nicely placed in this event following a 0.7L defeat 9 days ago in a good race down the Pinjarra straight. He was good winning two back and he looks well placed here from a nice barrier. Just has to hold his form to be getting the job done. JELLY CAN RUN (1) was racing in good races last campaign albeit over further. He does come into this race without a trial though and he maps to get his chance with Cooper's 3kg claim helping out. Sure to be there when the whips are cracking. PRINCE AMONGST MEN (9) bounced back last time out with a good effort down the Pinjarra straight. This is tougher, but he rates well off his latest effort and he won't be far away. ECSTASY OF GOLD (8) can feature first-up on the back of a nice trial.

Race 7: CERAMICO TRADIES APPRECIATION HANDICAP (1675m)

BIG SWOOP (8) comes into this first-up without a trial but he does look well placed to turn in a strong effort. He's been racing at a much higher level than his rivals and the 1675m fresh should be right up his alley. Expecting him to be doing his best work late. CANGGU (2) disappointed here last start as favourite and draws a much better barrier this time around. Jockey said last start he didn't handle the quick turnaround last time and he gets the Norton Bit on again today. Can turn in a much better effort and return to his best figures. ROYAL SPLENDOUR (7) should be hitting her peak now third-up into the campaign and Holly Watson has won aboard the mare previously. She's a third-up winner in the past and she'll take beating if she can improve as anticipated. LUCKY HEART (4) is better than he showed last time out and he can bounce back to his best.

Race 8: YOU SHOULD GO TO CERAMICO HANDICAP (1400m)

GI GI POPS (10) looks a really nice horse in the making and won a stronger race than this at the end of last campaign at Belmont. The wide draw is a niggle, but she looks ready to go to the next level this time in work and she has enough early speed to negate the wide draw. Can pick up where she left off. ICEBERGS (2) didn't see out the extra journey last start when leading in a tough race at Ascot. This is much easier and Fiore has options from the draw. Form out of his last start has been superb and he is expected to make his presence felt. LA DETTE (3) ran on well at Geraldton last time out and he maps for a much better run this time from a better barrier. The form out of his last start has worked out well and he should be at his peak now fourth-up. Should be right in the finish. CANNY CONI (9) has strong claims following an eye-catching finish last start over 1300m at Pinjarra. SOLDANELLE (4) Will be back in the run but should be flashing home late in the race.
