A stand-alone metro meeting for Wyong this Saturday, highlighted by the $500k The Lakes run over 1600m. The feature is an open affair, so we steer clear of it in search of some winners.
The last race throws up the best on the card in YORKSHIRE.
This four-year-old from the O'Shea/Charlton stable was a drifter first-up over 1300m at Randwick but did a tremendous job to go down by a whisker to the in-form Accredited, who came out last Saturday and thrashed a BM88 field at headquarters.
This is just the second campaign for the son of Snitzel, who raced exclusively at the provincials and midweekers on wet tracks last prep. His fine effort first-up in Saturday company on good ground shows he is ready to work his way through the grades this time in work, and the state of going won't matter.
Saturday's field is not terribly deep, with stablemate Ravello and the Neasham/Archibald-trained West Of Africa the main competition. However, this maps beautifully on the tight Wyong circuit for Yorkshire who should travel up on the pace and dictate terms.
The best value comes in Race 2 over 1600m.
The Kim Waugh-trained EDMOND looks nice value at around $7.00 in a typically open Midway. The seven-year-old has returned in fine order this campaign after struggling through the winter on wet surfaces.
He wasn't far away first-up at Warwick Farm then stalked the pace and found the line well to grab second behind Magic Stalker last Saturday over the mile at Kembla.
He steps up in class today but drops a significant 4.5kgs after Anna Roper's claim. The veteran has never attempted a seven-day back-up since being in Kim Waugh's yard, which is a sign he going exceptionally well for the local trainer.
A nice gate should see Edmond settle in behind the leading division and he gets every chance to figure in the finish at good each-way odds.
