Midweek racing from Ballarat and Doomben and we’ve got a horse to follow from each.

Ballarat Race 8 – Pharari

No prizes for finding this one but I think Pharari is a Group horse in the making, recording her second win this campaign with another big margin win. It was only a 0-64 race but a few of the horses she'd beaten have upside and she's put an absolute hole in them, cracking the 100 mark on the R&S scale. If they want to, I think she can go to the Creswick Stakes in a few weeks' time at Flemington for three-year-olds and win. By American Pharaoh, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets over more ground and I think the Golden Eagle is a realistic long-term plan.

Doomben Race 8 – Punch Lane

The Freedman camp have sent Punch Lane north and he's been good in both runs but this was a horrible watch for the punters that took the short odds as he's come from a clear last to rattle home and miss by a head. The sectionals show that he was finishing far, far too quickly and was given a very inefficient ride from the wide barrier. He can improve another 10 pounds or so given his form in Victoria and with a better ride next time out he should be winning.
