Canterbury Race 1 - Depth Of Character

Big win on debut by this Annabel Neasham trained colt, who settled outright last in the field and had plenty of ground to make up in the straight. He was still last at the 200m mark but powered home over the concluding stages to hit the lead at the 50m mark and go on to win by a length. The overall time was faster than the Bm64 over the same distance a couple of races later, but just the manner in which he won, beating some sharp triallers for big stables and doing it arrogantly. Keen to see where he ends up.

Doomben Race 3 - Invincible Shield

Very keen to follow this horse in Queensland. Formerly trained by Leon & Troy Corstens, he'd run in some strong races in three Victorian starts, including pitched up in the Stutt Stakes while still a maiden, but he's been sent to Tony Gollan and demolished his maiden rivals here over 1200m, working to the lead on a good tempo and breaking his opposition's hearts. He just kept running to put over three lengths on the nearest rival with over two lengths further back to third. The overall time was only around two lengths slower than Midnight In Tokyo who won the open sprint and is a borderline listed horse in Queensland. Invincible Shield looks right up to Saturday class off this.
