Rain Drum caused another upset at Rosehill to win the Shannon Stakes.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained six-year-old Rain Drum, having his first start in over 12 months and at only his 11th career run, scored a narrow but good win.
He began quickly from his inside barrier then eased to get a good run in fifth place on the rails. He was blocked in the early part of the straight, got a split passing the 200m and finished late to score by a head at the post.
Centennial Park eased from his outside barrier (12) and settled just past midfield (wide with cover). He put in a good run at the 300m, looked the winner when he took a narrow lead at the 100m and battled on under his top weight (59kg) for a good second, beaten only a head.
The lightly raced Our Desert Warrior travelled well in third place, one off the rails without cover. He challenged strongly at the 200m and then battled on gamely for a close third. It was a nice effort.
Ashokan worked across from his wide barrier (10) to take the lead at the 1000m. He then set a good tempo, leading to the 300m before finishing fourth.
The Greg Eurell-trained stablemates Hosting (fifth) was midfield between runners and made ground late when clear while Your Honour, the $3 favourite, (sixth) was trapped wide all the way and held on well in the straight.
