Sydney filly Arabian Gold grabbed an overdue win in the Ethereal.
The Sydney-trained filly Arabian Gold made a successful Melbourne debut.
She travelled nicely in fourth place, one out and one back before making her run three wide approaching the home turn. She challenged at the 300m, got to a narrow lead at the 200m and then kept battling on well to score by half a length, running the 2000m out well at her first attempt.
Solicit raced outside the leader, took a narrow lead on straightening and fought back well after being headed at the 200m for a sound second.
Another Sydney-trained filly Refer enjoyed a good trip behind the leader to the turn. She was briefly held up in the early part of the straight but got clear passing the 200m and then fought on to just get third in a three-way photo from Melaleuca (fourth) and Every Faith (fifth).
The Peter Moody-trained Akagera led the field to the turn but dropped out in the straight to finish seventh.
