Tromso did just enough to claim the Ladies Cup at Hawkesbury on Crown Oaks day.
Tromso went to the lead and slowed the pace (first 800m 49.53). He kept fighting back well when challenged in the straight to score by a short half head in a deceptive finish - his first win since May 2012.
Ninth Legion raced outside the leader and eventual winner most of the way. He got to a narrow lead at the 200m and looked the winner but was beaten in a bobbing finish for a short half head second.
Soledad ($3.00 fav) was fourth, one out and one back. He got to third passing the 200m and kept battling on in the sprint home for a sound third, being suited by the slow early pace.
Pipette came from second last in the small seven-horse field at the 600m for fourth, without threatening.
