Moonlight Bay finished half a length clear to win the Ascot Gold Cup.
Moonlight Bay settled in sixth place, one off the rails following a solid tempo (first 1200m 1:12.65).
She was under riding rounding the home turn but responded well from the 200m, running on late to score a sound half length win.
Finnegans Gold raced outside the leader (Doubtable) at a good pace, got to a narrow lead at the 200m and then kept fighting on for a sound second.
Doubtable led a set a strong pace, leading the field until the 200m before battling on well for third.
The favourite Angel Of Mercy ($2.40) began quickly from her wide barrier (15) and soon crossed to obtain a great run in fourth place, one out and one back. But she only plugged on turning for home and dropped out to finish a disappointing five and a half lengths eleventh.
