Listed Hoysted Handicap, March 1 - Flemington

3 minute read

Adamantium prevailed in a tight finish down the straight to claim the Hoysted Handicap.

Adamantium began quickly and raced close to the lead in the centre of the track, going at an average pace for the first 400m (24.19).

Craig Williams asked him to sprint nearing the 600m and the speedy sprinter quickly opened a break on his opposition before ducking in suddenly on passing the 400m but he still had enough in hand to hold on for a narrow victory, dashing home in a smart 33.32 (last 600m).

The top weight Pago Rock was back in ninth place to the 600m, he switched out shortly afterwards and made a lot of ground for a late-closing second, being clocked a fast 32.80 for his last 600m. It was another smart effort.

The SA-trained Couldn’t Agreemore was a handy fifth to the 600m, got to a distant second at the 400m and kept fighting on well for a sound third.

Office Bearer came from tenth at the 400m for a sound fourth while the favourite Miracles Of Life ($4) was just behind the leading division to the 600m, switched to the rails side at the 300m and kept battling on from that point to finish sixth beaten one and three quarter lengths.
