Estonian Princess prevailed in a photo to grab the narrowest of wins in the JHB Carr Stakes at Randwick.
Estonian Princess was eased from her wide draw and settled at the tail of the 11-horse field.
She improved nicely (with cover) rounding the home turn, got a split at the 300m and sprinted quickly on passing the 200m to get up in time for a last-stride win.
The favourite Northern Glory enjoyed a good trip from her inside barrier (1), racing in third place on the rails. She challenged at the 300m, and looked the winner when she took a narrow lead at the 100m, only to be caught on the post for second.
Lady Lakshmi shared the lead (racing on the rails) to the turn. She went to the front at the 300m and then fought on gamely to figure in a three-way photo for a close-up third.
The former NZ-trained filly Hera was seventh, one off the rails, improved well (wide-out) coming to the home turn and kept battling on under her top weight (58kg) in the centre of the track for a sound fourth while Dublin Lass made ground from near last to finish fifth.
Second favourite Miniature was back in ninth place, between runners. She was travelling well on turning for home but was blocked until finally clear at the 100m and she then ran on quite well for 3.4 lengths sixth.
