Sir Moments backed up last weekend's Queensland Guineas win in style, claiming the Daybreak Lover.
Sir Moments was restrained at the start and settled down a clear last about 12 lengths from the leader Longma.
He travelled well in the middle stages of the race but was still a clear last at the 500m. Nursed around the home turn on the outside of the field Sir Moments still had a huge amount to do turning for home. He laid in under pressure but he came quickly on the outside to take the lead inside the final 50m to score with his ears pricked. An impressive performance.
Longma led at a good pace. He turned for home in front and broke clear inside the final 200m looking the certain winner until Sir Moments swept down the outside late. He battled on gamely the whole way to the line to just go under late on. A good effort.
Liberty’s Choice raced on the outside of the leader in second position. He had every chance in the straight and battled on at one pace to just hold on for third.
Hopfgarten came from sixth one of the fence in the run before cornering for home five wide. He made good late ground after looking well beaten at the 250m to grab fourth on the outside late.
