Lightly raced Akavoroun added 'Black Type' to his name in winning the Winter Championship Final.
Akavoroun made it six wins from seven starts, putting up another smart effort.
He settled just beyond midfield in twelfth place in the 15-horse field. He was still giving the leader (The Cleaner) about ten lengths coming to the home turn before switching out wide at the 400m.
He then put in a strong finishing effort, getting to fourth at the 200m and continued to finish resolutely to score by three quarters of a length.
The Cleaner went to the front as usual. He steadied the early pace but picked up the tempo from the 800m point.
He turned for home with a good break and was only run down in the latter stages for a very good second, putting up an excellent effort with his top weight (60kg).
Gig had a good trip, fifth on the rails, went to second at the 200m and then fought on for a sound (1.8 lengths) third.
The favourite Henwood travelled well, midfield (one off the rails). He moved out wide on straightening, but then took a while to pick-up before gradually plugging on late for (3.1 lengths) fourth.
