Star Rolling worked in the early stages from his outside barrier (10) before settling outside the leader (Zamorar).

They then set an average early tempo (first 800m 49.03) before he drew to the front on passing the 200m.

He then stuck grimly to his task to win by a short half head in a bobbing finish, putting up a good first-up performance.

British import Spillway settled back in seventh place. Damien Oliver saved good ground in going through between runners rounding the home turn, going to third at the 200m.

He challenged at the 100m and fought gamely for a very close second in a smart first-up effort.

Gig was fifth, one off the rails, moved up (four wide) at the home turn and put in a good run to be in a challenging position at the 200m before fighting on for third.

Foreteller was near last in the ten-horse field to the home turn. He improved between runners on straightening going to sixth at the 100m and then kept running on soundly for a good first-up (2.2 lengths) fourth.

Lidari travelled well in third place, moved up at the home turn but just kept battling on from the 200m to finish (2.3 lengths) fifth at his first run since April.

Puissance De Lune began well and was close to the lead in the early stages before easing to settle in fifth place, but trapped three deep without cover.

He was about seven lengths from the leaders at the 600m and then improved nicely before switching out at the 300m. He only kept fighting on, a bit one-paced from that point, to finish (2.5 lengths) sixth at his first run since October last year.
